M Cafe is part of the Chaya Restaurant Group

The Chaya restaurant family originated when Hikage Chaya opened in Hayama, Japan, over 390 years ago. From this initial tea house, the Tsunoda family has expanded into French bistros and pastry shops throughout Japan, to CHAYA Venice, CHAYA Brasserie San Francisco, and CHAYA Downtown Los Angeles. The cuisine at all three restaurants can best be described as French and Italian cuisine with a Japanese Flair, but each restaurant has a distinct personality reflecting their different locations. The most important tenet of their business philosophy is hospitality. Chaya believes in bringing the Japanese teahouse tradition of warm and personal service to each and every guest. “Hospitality is considered the same everywhere in the world and good food is a universal language,” says Yuji Tsunoda, the owner of Chaya and one of the leaders of the California culinary revolution.

Located on the corner of Main Street and Navy Street, Chaya Venice is in the heart of the Venice beach community. The menu is similar to that of Chaya Brasserie but is expanded to include more international seafood dishes in keeping with its seaside location. Chaya Venice opened in 1990.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday. Dinner is served seven nights a week.

With its opening in January 2000, Chaya Brasserie has introduced the Bay Area to the Franco-Japanese cooking that has made Chaya so legendary in Los Angeles. Executive Chef Shigefumi Tachibe integrates the wealth of local products into his classic Chaya cuisine.

Chaya Downtown Los Angeles, the newest addition to the Chaya Family, combines urban chic and European sensibility with warm Japanese hospitality. Chaya Downtown has a lively full bar, lounge, and Sushi bar that all sit right off the main dining room and look out into the large beautiful garden patio. Chaya Downtown opened in 2009.
